Trevor Seery, from Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, is one of 16 people from across the island of Ireland chosen by the British Council to participate in its ‘Challenge Europe’ climate change initiative. Mr Seery is part of a team of dynamic young achievers from all walks of life who will work together to draw on knowledge from the worlds of science, business, academia and political thinking to develop and propose three clear, practical, ideas for cutting our carbon craving over the next year.
“Throughout my lifetime, our generation and indeed future generations will experience dramatic and distressing economic, environmental, and social changes that will emanate from climate change and its effects,” Mr Seery said. “I would like to be involved in coming up with solutions from a professional but also practical and biological persuasion.”
The advocates will work collaboratively to research and develop practical ideas aimed at cutting carbon emissions and will pitch these ideas to a panel of experts in Dublin on 14 July.
