Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has received confirmation that pay and display parking charges will introduced in McCormack Estate. The estate is located just off Lower Charles Street and is very close to the town centre with free parking.
Deputy Kenny said: “This is an issue building up over a number of years as residents found it increasingly difficult to find vacant parking spaces in their own residential area. A substantial number of cars were parking in the estate to avail of free parking and drivers only had to take a very short walk into the town centre. This is completely unfair to those living the estate. As a result, the residents will be provided with residents’ parking permits and all other users will have to pay the standard charges. It is also hoped that visitor parking permits will also be made available to local residents in the estate and this should finally resolve the issue.”
