Probation report on man who was drunk before noon

A 20 year old unemployed Lithuanian man who was found drunk in the company of a minor has had a probation report ordered on him by Judge Mary Devins this week in Claremorris District Court.

Garda Michael McGrath told the court that on September 19 2009 a call was made to the Garda station to inform gardaí there were a number of youths drinking in the GAA grounds in Claremorris, where u12 training was taking place at the time. Garda McGrath arrived and found Deividas Ivoska, 2 Mount Crescent, Mount Street, Claremorris, who he said was clearly drunk at the time in the company of a minor, and they had a bottle of brandy with them at the time which they tried to conceal. When Garda McGrath took it from him Ivoska tried to take it back.

He arrested the pair and brought them to Claremorris Garda station after enquiries revealed that Ivoska had stolen the bandy from the SuperValu supermarket in the town earlier that morning. The brandy was valued at €46.71.

The court was told that Ivoska had come to Ireland with his parents four years ago and had a number of previous convictions for a range offences, having recently served a prison sentence. Judge Mary Devins expressed her concerns that Ivoska could be an alcoholic before ordering a probation report on him and adjourned the case until October 19, but gave the gardaí liberty to re-enter the case at 24 hours notice.
