Westport to host Turas na mBan

The town of Westport is to host Turas na mBan, a weekend dedicated to celebrating the journey of women, which takes place in the Knockranny House Hotel on Friday and Saturday October 17 and 18. This is the third successive year of this event, and on Friday evening the proceedings will get under way with music, dancing, singing, wine tasting, and oysters.

The event is sponsored by Meitheal Mhaigheo, a company established in 1991 to promote community development, and the concept of a meitheal approach to working together, as the basis for counteracting social exclusion in Mayo. It has designed this year’s impressive programme which will be of particular interest to community activists, historians and heritage studies students.

Turas na mBan promises to be a good weekend of talks, music, and wine tasting and will be accessible to all. The conference fees are very reasonable, with concessions available to students, senior citizens, and groups of 10 or more. Single session fees are also available. For registration, payments and general enquiries contact Margaret Burke, Meitheal Mhaigheo, Lower Main Street, Foxford, telephone (094 ) 925 6745, or e-mail [email protected]
