The Mayo Fit4life 5km Summer Series will be made up of three 5km events held in three different areas of Mayo on consecutive Wednesday evenings. Walkers, joggers and runners are all welcome in the meet and train groups, Fit4Life groups, individual walkers, joggers, runners and club runners are all welcome to take part. Fit4life meet and train groups are springing up throughout the county with new groups now in Ballinrobe, and Belmullet along with the existing groups from Ballina, Westport, Claremorris, Castlebar, and Swinford.

Ballina athletes impress at Cork marathon

Tom Horkan from Ballina AC added to his impressive array of titles with victory in the over 70 section of the Cork marathon. His finishing time of 3:59:58 is remarkably consistent in that Horkan has completed the Barcelona, Connemara, and Belfast marathons already this year alone in similar times. It is testament to his dedication to training and the mental focus and fortitude he brings to the race. Fresh from her third place finish in the recent Ballina half marathon, Sandra Finnerty brought her good form to Cork with a strong run in a time of 3:41:31. Once again, this is just rewards for dedication to preparation and a focused approach. Her improvement over a variety of distances in recent years is to be applauded.
