Daniel O’Donnell returns to Castlebar for one night on Saturday July 24. It has been 18 months since Daniel O’Donnell has played The Royal Theatre and his fans have been eagerly awaiting this show. Donegal’s favourite son, Daniel O’Donnell needs no introduction to audiences. Daniel’s success has spread far beyond his native shores and he is a major figure in the music scene in Europe, North America, and the UK. In fact, such has been his impact in Britain that in 2002 he was awarded an honorary MBE for his services to the music industry. However Daniel himself has declared that the award which he holds dearest to his heart is being named as Donegal Person of the Year in 1989.
He has had 20 UK Top 40 albums as well as 15 Top 40 singles and has sold ten million albums worldwide. When it comes to the secret of his success, Daniel has his own theory. “I’ve never sung to make money,” he says. “When I’m performing I never think about how much I’m making on the night. I sing because I love it and the money is just a by-product of what I do. My biggest payment is being on the stage and that is a big part of the secret of my success. If it all ended tomorrow, I couldn’t say there is anything the world could have offered me that is better than what I have.”
Mary Duff will be joining him as a guest star for the concert on July 24. Tickets are on sale on Saturday April 17 from €44.50 on www.ticketmaster.ie as well as from The Royal Box Office on 0818 300 000.
