A 23-year-old Ballina man who was observed by gardaí row with his girlfriend in an aggressive manner, and who then lashed out at gardaí, was convicted of being threatening and abusive at Ballina District Court this week.
Brendan Moyles, 19 Ferran Terrace, Ballina, was observed by Garda Joseph Newell engage in a row with a woman on February 21 on Pearse Street. The defendant who was aggressive towards this woman, who was his girlfriend, hit his head towards her and said “come on f***ing hit me”. When Moyles saw the gardaí he turned towards them and began pushing out and had to be restrained when arrested.
The court heard that the defendant had a lot to drink that night and is still in a relationship with the woman. Moyles, who has previous convictions, was convicted and fined €300 by Judge Mary Devins.
