A 26-year-old man with 26 previous convictions was before Belmullet District Court this week after he was found in possession of €80 worth of cannabis and cocaine, which he used for his own personal use.
Damien Burke, Corclough East, Belmullet, was searched by gardaí on October 16 2009 in Belmullet. Burke dropped two packets from his person, these contained €40 worth of cannabis and €40 worth of cocaine.
According to Aidan Crowley, solicitor for the defendant, Burke is attending an addiction treatment service.
Judge Seamus Hughes said he was “not convinced at all” that Burke “had turned a corner”, “but you are at an age where you can go the right or wrong way. It is time to start making some contribution to yourself, the people around you, and the community instead of clogging up the court.”
Judge Hughes adjourned the case until June 13 2012, with liberty for the prosecution to re-enter.
