Conviction for drunk motor cyclist

A 50-year-old man from Bangor Erris, who was detected driving while drunk on his 16-year-old motorcycle was disqualified from driving for one year at this week’s sitting of Belmullet District Court.

Garda Peter Kelly outlined that while on duty at 10.05pm on February 6 this year in Bangor Erris he observed Patrick O’Malley, Muinhin, Bangor Erris, on his motorbike which was being driven very slowly and on two occasions swayed back and forth on the left lane of the road.

O’Malley was stopped and failed a roadside breath test. The defendant later provided a breath sample which gave a reading of 38mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The single man, who is a carer for his mother, was convicted and fined €150 by Judge Seamus Hughes and disqualified from driving for one year.
