Castlebar town centre works set for a sprint

Castlebar town manager Seamus Granahan told the Mayo Advertiser this week that while works were slow on the refurbishment of the town centre the pace would be picked up by the crews working on the refurbishment. The slow progress of the works had drawn a number of complaints from traders, and the issue was raised at the monthly meeting of the local town council by a number of councillors.

“The works have been slower than we hoped and we have run into a few problems,” Mr Granahan said. “We are looking at having the section from the junction at the mall down to Ellison Street completed by mid July. We’ll then be starting from the corner of the old Kingsbridge and working our way up the street. We will be off the street from November on to allow for the Christmas shopping period, but we will still have some work to be finished off and Castle Street will have to be done after Christmas also.”
