A man who was so drunk he had to lean on a lamppost to keep upright was before Ballina District Court this week for being intoxicated in a public place.
Michael Gillespie, 29 Ridgepool Village, Ballina, was observed on May 31 on Abbey Street, Ballina, by Garda Jude Gallagher. The intoxicated defendant stumbled on a footpath near a very busy road before he propped himself up with the lamppost.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the defendant €100. Gillespie was very apologetic to the court.
