Drinking parties a concern at Old Head

An incident at Old Head beach in Louisburgh on Wednesday night last, when windows front and back were smashed in a car parked at the pier and a landmark Sycamore tree on the beach was damaged, has caused safety concerns in the area.

One local resident said it was becoming an ongoing problem that large groups of young people gather on the beach and up at the headland for drinking parties.

“People are getting afraid now because it seems to be getting worse. We don’t know are they going to interfere with houses next, because when they’re wandering around drunk. You don’t know what they’re going to do. It’s very disappointing as this was always a lovely, quiet, and relaxing area, but people are even afraid to go to the beach in the afternoon now.”

Westport gardaí called out to the scene confirmed to the Mayo Advertiser that a number of similar incidents that may be linked are currently under investigation.
