A 25-year-old woman who hails from outside Crossmolina is gearing up for the Rose of Tralee regional finals this weekend where she hopes to be one of six out of 29 Roses to be selected to go through to the prestigious festival in Tralee later this summer.
Michelle Moyles, a social care worker with Ability West in Galway, told the Mayo Advertiser she is looking forward to the upcoming five days in Portlaoise. Michelle explained that her older sister Patricia entered her into the Mayo heats which she was delighted about as she is revelling in the Rose experience so far and has thoroughly enjoyed meeting her fellow Roses. Even though she is “quite nervous” about the next selection phase, Michelle said the deluge of well-wishes and support she has received in the past few weeks has boosted her spirits, and will help her focus on getting through the next stage.
Michelle is an avid Galway Musical Society member and accomplished member of the McCole School of Irish Dance for adults; she also enjoys salsa and ballroom and once a month helps organise a disco for people with disabilities. Well-travelled Michelle hopes to complete a masters degree and further contribute to the field of social care.
The 2010 Rose of Tralee international regional finals will take place in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel from June 3 to June 7. www.roseoftralee.ie
