Mayo County Council is the first county in the country to inform their students about the availability of higher education grants on Facebook. An information page has been set up to assist students and their parents through the application process for a higher education grant. Application form and guidance notes for the 2010/2011 Higher Education Grants Scheme are now available for downloading on www.mayococo.ie
Mayo County Council expects to process at least 1,500 applications this year, which is treble the number processed in 2008. The council is holding a number of information days around the county to help prospective students. They will be in the area offices in Belmullet and Westport today (Friday May 28 ) from 11am to 4pm and on Monday (May 31 ) in the Claremorris and Swinford area offices from 11am to 4pm also.
