Jail term for man who did not appear in court

A man with a number of previous convictions for theft who did not appear in court was handed down two consecutive 28 day jail terms in Claremorris District Court this week.

Deividas Ivoska, 2 Mount Crescent, Mount Street, Claremorris, failed to appear on charges of criminal damage and public order offences. On July 1 2009, Ivoska was arrested for causing criminal damage in the town, and on February 2 2010 he was arrested for committing threatening and abusive behaviour on Dalton Street, Claremorris. For the criminal damage offence Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €500 and sentenced him to 28 days in prison, for the public order offence she convicted and fined him a further €500 and sentenced him to 28 days in prison consecutive.
