Taoiseach Brian Cowen is in Mayo today to officiate at a number of celebratory events taking place in the area including the launch of a brand new €7 million campus for two treasured special schools in Ballina. Mr Cowen is due to arrive at 12 noon and to remain in the north Mayo area for a number of hours where he will first raise the Green Flag at Carha National School in Bonniconlon before launching the official opening of St Dymphna’s and St Nicholas’ Special Schools. Both Western Care funded schools have been operating successfully for some years and are now celebrating the move into state-of-the-art new premises.
The head of state will then travel to the internet security plant at Lionbridge Technologies in Ballina where he will give a public address in tribute to the continuing success of the company, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.
“We’re very proud to have Lionbridge Technology in Ballina and to have the Taoiseach here to mark their contribution to the area. I will also be taking the opportunity to promote Ballina further and raise the issues of the N26 and the N5 with him,” local TD Dara Calleary told the Mayo Advertiser.
From there Mr Cowen is set visit the site of the new Ballina Medical Centre, Mayo’s first primary care centre, which is a joint initiative between the HSE and doctors Tom and Sean Moffatt. The construction of the centre is being undertaken by local developer Vincent Ruane, with Charlestown architect John Halligan appointed as lead architect.
