€500,000 for Castlebar roads

Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has welcomed the Road Works Estimates from Castlebar Town Council for 2010.  A total of €585,000 has been allocated toward improvements and maintenance around the town. From this funding, approximately €216,000 will be spent on 18 locations where improvement and installation works are required.

Works are as follows: €10,000 for footpaths in Chestnut Grove; €4,000 for road surfacing in Cashel Park; €30,000 for public lighting on Rathbawn Road at Lakeshore and Rockvale; €50,000 for footpaths and public lighting on the Turlough Road from An Sruthan to Whitehorse Lane; €11,000 for road surfacing at Richard Street; €12,000 for surfacing on Rush Street; €10,000 for footpaths and road surfacing on Churchview Villas and Pound Road; €5,000 for road surfacing on Rathbawn Drive; €5,000 on road surfacing at Sion Hill; €9,000 for road surfacing on Thomas Street at Riverdale Court and Knockthomas Drive junction; €21,000 for road surfacing on the Old Moneen Road; €5,000 for footpaths at Springfield Court; €4,000 for surfacing at Lower Charles Street; €10,000 for surfacing and safety works at Knockaphunta Park; €5,000 for footpaths at Greenfields; €5,000 for road surfacing at Garryduff Drive; €8,000 for footpaths and surfacing on Lakeshore Drive and €12,000 for public lighting on Hopkins Road.

  Deputy Kenny said: “This is a substantial achievement for any local authority to provide substantial funding for improvements considering the recent economic distress being experienced by many local councils.”
