Intoxicated man damaged post
A 21-year-old Foxford man who, when drunk, snatched post and damaged it, was before Ballina District Court this week for criminal damage and public order charges.
On March 5 2010, gardaí were made aware that post had been taken and damaged by Simon McEllhatton, 2 Riverside, Foxford. McEllhatton was aggressive towards gardaí when approached, grinding his teeth and saying “what the f**k are you on about?”
On March 13 at 5.45am, gardaí observed the defendant being threatening and abusive to his father and partner after McEllhatton was refused entry to his father’s house. The defendant was observed to try to fight his father and say to his father and father’s partner that he would “burst every one of ye”.
The court heard that the defendant has previous convictions and had an alcohol problem which he is currently addressing.
Judge Mary Devins remanded the defendant on continuing bail to July 13 for a community service assessment report, where if found suitable the defendant will undertake a total of 150 hours community service in lieu of four months in prison.
