Introduction to motorsport event tonight

Mayo and District Motorsport Club will hold an Introduction To Motorsport evening this Friday, May 14 2010 at the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris commencing at 8pm. It is open to anyone who may be interested in getting involved in motorsport but doesn’t know where or how to start. The evening will include advice and practical tips on topics such as getting the necessary licences and paperwork, what equipment is needed, and preparing a car for competition. Particular focus will be placed on getting started in autocross, this being a particularly cost-effective and accessible form of the sport.

Members of Mayo and District Motorsport Club will be on hand to offer advice, while an information handout will be provided. In addition, a selection of rally and autocross cars will be on display, where competitors will explain the preparation work involved in getting the vehicles ready for competitive action.

First Mayo autocross of 2010

This Sunday May 16 sees the launch of the 2010 Mayo loose surface autocross season, the first of four events to be held during the year. Taking place once again at Harrington’s Quarry, The Valley, near Swinford, this highly popular autocross series regularly attracts competitors from all over the country as well as many local drivers.

After a highly successful 2009 season when he won three events outright, Foxford’s James McGreal will be looking for more of the same this year, while young driver champion Justin Ryan from Headford will also be back to defend the title he won last year. Both men though are sure to face strong opposition from what is shaping up to be a quality entry list.
