An illegal immigrant from Georgia who removed computer items from Tesco in Castlebar and who attempted to do the same from Tesco Ballinrobe was before Ballinrobe District Court last week.
Temuri Digmelashvili, of no fixed abode, entered Tesco Castlebar on January 5 2010, where he placed computer games in a tinfoil suitcase and left the store. The property worth €323.50 was not recovered.
Two days later he entered Tesco Ballinrobe, with the same foiled suitcase and placed more computer games in the case. The defendant became aware that he had been spotted by security staff and placed the items back on the shelf.
Gardaí were called to the scene and the defendant was asked to produce a national immigration card which he did not have.
The defendant, who came to the county a year ago with his then pregnant wife, is not registered to be in the country and he entered Ireland illegally.
The court heard that the defendant and his family will be repatriated back to Georgia.
Judge Mary Devins remanded him on continuing bail for sentencing to November 26 in the hope that on that date the prosecution will be notified that the repatriation has taken place.
