Duathlon win for postal worker

Popular An Post worker Noel Brady has become a an All-Ireland Duathlon hero after winning the National Duathlon Championships in Burnfoot, Co Donegal, on April 25. The veteran Westport athlete and cyclist won his first National title on April 25 last.

A duathlon comprises running and cycling. Brady had to run 10k, cycle 40k, and finish off with a 5k run. He completed the event in a time of 2.08.27 to win the over 50s category. This is Brady’s third big win of 2010. He won in the same category at the Days Duathlon held in Castlebar recently.

Noel Brady is a prominent member of the Covey Wheelers/Westport Cycling Club and is a regular top 10 finisher at Gael Force.

Derval Devaney, also a member of the Westport Cycling Club, completed the event in a time of 2.14.38 and won her age category.

Martin Grealish from Gort, Co Clare, and a member of the Western Lakes CC was sixth overall in the same event. These three athletes now go on to represent Ireland in the World Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh next September.
