Award-winning Claremorris businesswoman Melissa Walsh was recently invited to give a talk to design students at IT Sligo, from where she herself graduated in industrial design. Ms Walsh spoke to the students about her work and her company MW Design, Print, and Signs in Claremorris, Co Mayo. She also discussed project work with the students and assessed the overall concept and presentation of their work.
As a design industry professional, Ms Walsh had plenty of tips to offer and suggested students “put in as much time and effort now as this will all be notable within a work place when you present your portfolio”. Describing her own career path, she said that although her first job was only indirectly related to her design qualification, it opened doors to her “dream job”.
“You can prove yourself once you have your foot in the door,” she suggested.
