Lough Mask cycle challenge open to all

Cycling

Allow yourself to rediscover the joys of cycling by taking part in a fun event that is suitable for all levels of cycling ability – the fourth annual Lap of the Mask cycle on Saturday, May 15. Participants in this event will complete a circuit of Lough Mask at their own pace, while enjoying the natural beauty of the area. So if you need something to motivate you to get fit, why not come along on the day.

The route for the lap of the Mask is a 64km circuit of the lake, which is well within the capabilities of anyone of reasonable fitness. Cyclists will start out at Ballinrobe, cycle to Partry where they will head for Tourmakeady along the north shore of the lough. There is a food stop after Tourmakeady.

The second half of the route will take cyclists to Finny and into Clonbur, before heading back into Ballinrobe. For anyone who would like to “go the extra mile”, they can take in the Head of the Mask after Finny, which brings the event distance up to 71km. The routes will be fully marked and marshalled, with support vehicles patrolling the route during the event. Refreshments will be available at halfway and again at the finish. Sign-on/registration will be at Western Lakes Cycling Centre, Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe from 9.30am. The event starts at 11am. Proceeds from the event will be shared between the Mayo Cystic Fibrosis Building Project and Western Lakes Cycling Club. Check www.westernlakescc.ie updates closer to the event.
