The Department of Education and Science’s Summer Works Scheme will see 57 schools in Mayo benefit from minor repair works during the summer break.
The annual scheme involves a variety of works, including repairs and refurbishment of roofs and toilets, electrical and mechanical work, and improvements to the external environment of the school.
Welcoming the announcement by his colleague, the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan TD, Minister Dara Calleary said that it is important that the Government continues to prioritise investment in schools and education.
“It is vital, despite the constraints on the public finances, that we continue to invest in schools. Creating a positive physical environment for pupils helps to enhance their learning and it is important that we continue to invest in schools.
“Local schools that are benefiting from the work will be contacted by the Department shortly for details on how to proceed,” concluded Minister Calleary.
