An accounts manager from Ballina was this week convicted of drink driving at Ballina District Court.
Garda Noel Crinnegan stopped Alan O’Connor, 84 The Sycamores, Cluain na Ri, Ballina, on November 8 2009 at 3.40am, on Station Road, Ballina, following a minor road traffic accident.
The defendant failed a roadside breath test and a blood sample was subsequently provided which showed 199mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
The defendant, who has no previous convictions, said that it was a “moment of madness” which made him drive that night.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined O‘Connor €550 and disqualified him from driving for three years, with the disqualification not to come into effect until May 13.
