Garda van blocked by drunk man

An intoxicated man who prevented a Garda patrol van from driving on was before Ballina District Court this week.

On April 11 2010 at 3.40am on Pearse Street, Sergeant Stephen Clarke observed Brian Egan, Graffy, Attymass, step out in front of the public order van, which prevented gardaí from driving on. The defendant opened the passenger door of the van and refused to close it when directed to do so. Egan, who was intoxicated, was irate towards gardaí and told them to “arrest me so”.

The defendant, who has no previous public order convictions, was directed by Judge Mary Devins to contribute €100 to the Special Olympics.
