During this week’s Westport electoral area meeting, Councillor Peter Flynn said that action needs to be taken regarding the cycle lane on the coastal route from Belclare to Murrisk.
The Fine Gael councillor said that cars are using the cycle lane as a hard shoulder and that bollards need to be put in place before an accident occurs.
Fianna Fáil councillor Margaret Adams concurred that bollards are needed for that stretch of the cycleway, while Fine Gael councillor John O’Malley said that many people think that it is a one-way cycle lane as the signage where it starts in Murrisk only shows that it is one-way, and Cllr O’Malley said that it is not wide enough for a two-way cycle lane.
