Minister Ó Cuív to perform official opening of new CRC studios

The new studios of CRCfm will be officially opened on Friday April 9 by Minister for Social Protection Eamon Ó Cuív at 8pm and all members of the community are invited to attend and view the new facilities.

CRCfm has been existence since 1995 when it received its first community broadcasting licence and initially opened its first studios at New Antrim Street, Castlebar. After three years at that location the station moved to Hopkins Road to bigger premises and remained there until September of 2009 when it again moved to its present location at the MOSAIC Centre, Harlequin Plaza, Castlebar.

The new move was brought about through CRC’s amalgamation with MOSAIC: Mayo’s Organisation for Sustainable and Integrated Communities. CRC is one of nine constituent organisations which make up MOSAIC and which include Work Web West, The LES, Grow, Disability Federation of Ireland, Multiple Sclerosis Ireland, Centre for Independent Living, Spinabifida and Mayo Travellers Support.

The nine groups coming together in the one building has given opportunities for the provision of an integrated approach to a range of services as well as cost savings to the projects.

The new studios which the minister will officially open have been equipped with the latest technology in radio and this has been supported by MOSAIC through grant aid from the Castlebar Community Development Association and through the station’s own resources.

Programmes are broadcast from 9am to 10pm seven days a week to Castlebar and the surrounding areas and world-wide on the internet.

Members of the public are invited to attend the official opening and view the new facilities and equipment.

The official opening ceremony will be attended by Mayor of Castlebar Councillor Michael Kilcoyne and the Chief Executive of the Broadcasting Authority Michael O’Keeffe.

CRC is a community station owned, controlled and managed on behalf of the community
