The Finbar Hoban Presents event kicked off last Saturday night week with local Castlebar group Inverter bringing their own style of covers from ‘Born To be Wild’ to ‘Play That Funky Music White Boy’. Second on the bill on the night were The Rumours , with their influences drawn from such legendary bands as The Jam, The Stranglers, and the band’s excellent single ‘Keep it Going’ kept the crowd wanting more!
The main act, Walter Mitty and the Realists, took to the stage at 11.30pm to a thunderous roar of applause, this is what the crowd were waiting for, lead singer Niall Mctique shouted One! Two! Three! and then out of nowhere guitars were swung and people were treated to the bands new single ‘Red is the Number’. A refreshingly uncompromising and intensely captivating sound is what they have been described as and that’s exactly what this band delivered.
From the start of Walter Mitty’s set they had the Bar Ritz faithful crowd in the palm of their hands until there very last song. For more information on this fantastic live group check out www.waltermitty&therealists com for future live shows around the country.
Meanwhile DJ Finbar finished off the nights show with some spectacular tracks from MGMT, Bootsy Collins, and The Violent Femmes. Thanks again to everybody for coming out to the show and supporting Castlebar’s brand new boutique alternative event and also to those people for helping out on the night, and especially to Mulroy’s bar for bringing back live music and entertainment to the main street in Castlebar.
