Breege Staunton, Galway-based artist and Westport native, will hold a solo art exhibition in the Clew Bay Hotel throughout October. Well-known writer and journalist Mary Kenny will officially open the exhibition today (Friday ) at 6pm.
Exhibiting very successfully every year at the Paintbox and with Galway Art Club, Breege has also participated in group exhibitions at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, the Custom House Studios in Westport and Galway City Museum. Her paintings have been accepted by Croí (West of Ireland Heart Foundation ) for its Christmas cards in 2006 and 2007.
While working mostly with oils, acrylics and on silk, Breege finds pen and wash sketching a great medium for outdoor work. She does not follow any particular theme; her subjects are wide-ranging, from little villages nestled into the hillsides, voluptuous nudes to street scenes of old Galway, her adopted home.
“I’m looking forward to exhibiting in my home town, and I am dedicating the exhibition to the memory of my late father, Charles Kenny, who encouraged and inspired me,” Breege said.
