A weekend of sporting fun in Erris

The Mayo Sports Partnership would like to invite everybody in the Erris area to participate in a festival of sport which takes place on the weekend of Friday and Saturday October 3 and 4.

A programme of activities has been drafted to target all sections of the community including children, families, adults, older people and people with a disability.

The sports ability day will take place today (Friday ) from 10am to 3pm in the Belmullet Sports Complex. This event concentrates on providing people with a disability opportunities to participate in activities such as basketball, athletics, kurling, bowling, dance, soccer etc.

Tomorrow (Saturday ), a sports fest for older people (10am to noon ) will take place in the Belmullet Sports Complex. Activities will include bowling, kurling, exercise to music and parachute games.

Later that day at 2pm in the Belmullet Civic Centre there will be numerous fun activities for all the family. The activities will include traditional sports such as GAA, soccer, volleyball, rugby, camogie, cycling, golf, badminton, walking, sailing/water sports and lots more. Participants will be asked to complete a skills circuit and on completion of the circuit they will be entered to a draw for sports equipment vouchers.

The Erris Fun Team Challenge will take place at 3pm from the civic centre. The team challenge involves teams of six people performing a number of fun filled mental and physical challenges in the area involving team work and co-operation by all. All participants must be over 18 and an entry fee of €30 per team applies. All entry fees will be donated to the Marie Carolan fund and an overall prize fund of €500 worth of sports equipment vouchers awaits the winners.
