Mayor writes to manager over civic amenity centre reduced hours

The Mayor of Castlebar has written to the town manager and director of service with Mayo Council outlining his “disappointment” that the opening hours of the county’s two civic amenity centres have been reduced without any discussion.

Cllr Michael Kilcoyne has called on Mr Seamus Granahan to convene a meeting of the council’s environment strategic policy committee immediately to discuss “this most serious development”.

He said he regards the decision to reduce the opening hours at Derrinumera and Rathroeen civic amenity centres as a “retrograde step at a time when it is our duty to encourage the general public to reduce, reuse, and recycle”.

In his letter the Mayor also highlighted the continuing problem with illegal dumping and its effect on the environment.
