A 41-year-old man who co-ordinates courses for the elderly was this week disqualified from driving after he was convicted at Ballina District Court for dangerous driving.
On October 20 2009, Garda Des McCann observed a vehicle which was driven by James Reddiough, Graffy, Ballina, overtake him in the Abbey Half Quarter area of Ballina on a bend and across a continuous white line. An oncoming vehicle was forced to move into the side of the road as Reddiough almost collided with it.
Solicitor John Gordon said that the single man, who lives with his grandmother, co-ordinates courses for the elderly across the country, however he suffers from an anxiety disorder which has an impact on his driving.
The court heard that Reddiough has a previous careless driving and dangerous driving conviction and Judge Mary Devins asked if this man “should be driving at all”?
The judge disqualified the defendant for three years and directed that a certificate of competence should be obtained before Reddiough can drive again. The defendant was also convicted and fined €500.
