Two men arrested following fatal crash

Gardaí in Charlestown arrested two men on Tuesday morning as part of their investigation into a fatal road collision in Charlestown on St Patrick’s Day. Sixty-seven-year-old Peter Rushe from Barnacogue, Swinford, died after his car was involved in a collision with another car on Barrack Street in Charlestown on St Patrick’s Day. The second car involved in the accident was abandoned at the scene and its two occupants fled on foot.

Superintendent Ronan Galligan told the Mayo Advertiser that two men have been arrested as part of the investigation into the accident. “One of the men has been charged in relation to damaging a Garda vehicle as he was being arrested, and is still in custody while the other man has been released,” Supt Galligan said. “A file is being prepared to be sent to the DPP in relation to the incident and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to the investigation.”
