Fresh from his third place finish at the Tubbercurry 10K on St Patrick's Day Roger Barrett, Ballina AC, travelled to Sligo for the Connacht senior cross country championships last weekend. Barrett was further rewarded for the hard work he gives to training when he ran a fantastic race and beat off all contenders to secure the senior title. He was followed closely behind by Liam Feeley of north Leitrim in second place and Tommy Kelly, north Sligo, in third. The only other Mayo athlete to compete was Sean Gallagher, Ballina AC, who finished in eighth place overall.
Silver for Michelle Reynolds in Ballinrobe
Another Ballina A/C athlete and Fit4Life co-ordinator Michelle Reynolds competed in the Ballinrobe 8K race on Sunday and put in a great performance to take home second prize in the masters’ race.
Connacht Juvenile Indoor in Nenagh
The second weekend of the Connacht AAI Indoor Athletic Championships was held in Nenagh at the weekend. Ballina u13 boys’ relay team of Eric Connolly, Keith Harney, John Timlin, James Doherty, and Jack Regan ran a fantastic race and was just pipped on the line by Galway City Harriers. They took home silver medals for their gallant efforts. Eric Connolly also took home an individual silver medal when he finished in second place in the u13 60m hurdles. Keith Harney finished in fourth place and Jack Regan in fifth place in the hurdles also. John Timlin competed in the hurdles and James Doherty and Jack Regan in the high jump.
