Shaws Garden Centre now stocking petcare products

Opened in 1992, Shaws Garden Centre, a family run business, has grown from strength to strength to where, in 2010, it can offer customers a much wider range of products.

Shaws would not have achieved this without their ever increasing loyal customers to whom they are very grateful.

At Shaws they always strive to give each individual good, honest advice on what best suits their garden. Their plants are of excellent quality and keenly priced and they have confidence that they are more competitive than any other garden retail business around.

In the past year Shaws have diversified into petcare. They supply Madra and Petmaster dog food, Royal Canine cat and dog food, dog leads and collars, animal toys, fish food and accessories, wild bird food and caged bird care. They also stock dog kennels, pet carriers, rabbit hutches, hamster cages and much more at very competitive prices.

Florists have always had to travel long distances to source the sundries they need to create arrangements. Shaws now supply these sundries at very reasonable rates to florists. They stock dry and wet oasis, tapes, dishes, cellophane, tools, glassware, ribbon, baskets and much more.

After the extreme winter plants and lawns have suffered from long periods of record breaking temperatures. Most of them will recover with the correct treatment and Shaws are happy to answer any of your queries. With only a couple of weeks left in the bare-root season now is a great time to plant shelter belts in the form of bare-root whips or one-year old trees which can be bought cheaper now including birch, ash, alder, hazel, dogwood and much more.

Whitethorn, if planted for hedging or shelter, should be two-year-old plants as they are more branchy and can compete better with weeds. One year plants have to be cut back too much and end up being overtaken and choked by weeds. You will identify two-year-old plants by checking for branching low down where the plant was cut back in its first year.

Shaws Garden and Petcare Centre, Westport Road, Castlebar is open Sundays from 12 noon to 6pm, Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 6pm.
