Three injured in collision

Three people were injured in a road crash in Westport on Tuesday night. The collision happened at the junction of the Leenane road and the Quay road near the town, shortly before 9.30pm. The emergency services were called to the scene and two males and female were taken to Mayo General Hospital, none of the three are believed to be seriously injured.

Three appear in court over burglaries

Three men from the Cork area appeared before a special sitting of Westport District Court on Tuesday evening to face charges arriving out of series of burglaries in the Westport area in the early hours of Monday morning. Two public houses in the area were broken into and an attempt was made to break into a third. The gardaí arrived on the scene at 5am as the three were making their get away in a stolen car.

A chase ensued in which a Garda car was rammed, the three men were subsequently arrested near Louisburgh and were charged in relation to the two burglaries and travelling in a stolen car. The three were remanded in custody to appear before a sitting of Harristown District Court in Castlerea today (October 3 ).

Two charged with stealing car in Castlebar

A man and a woman appeared in Westport District Court yesterday (Thursday ) in relation to the unauthorised taking of a vehicle in Castlebar on Wednesday. The pair were arrested in Snugboro after being involved in a minor traffic accident. The car was taken from the Chapel Street area of the town at 5.15pm and a male and a female in their 30s who are local to the area were arrested in relation to the incident.
