Mayo jobless numbers dropped last month

There has been a decline in the number of people in Mayo on the live register last month, with a reduction of 189 from 13,346 signing on in January of this year to 13,157 in February.

The biggest decreases were in the towns of Castlebar and Westport with a reduction of 56 people in each area. Ballinrobe was the only area where the figure increased by four to 1,119.

Some 8,790 males and 4,365 females signed on last month. Out of the male group 1,711 were under 25 while 7,081 were over 25. For the females 883 females under 25 were on the live register and 3,482 of these women were over 25.

Ballina has the highest rate of people signing on last month (3,226 ) while Achill has the lowest at 465.

Since the same time last year 606 more people signed on in Ballina, 510 in Castlebar, and 345 in Westport.
