Given the prolonged cold spell this winter, hard pressed householders are facing enormous heating bills. Many are availing of the opportunity to change their old inefficient oil boilers and are receiving an SEI grant of €700.
Many people have had a few fills of oil already as heating systems were going night and day over the last few months. By replacing your old oil boiler with a new energy efficient condensing oil boiler you can save yourself 30 per cent on your heating bill. That is €300 in every €1,000. If your boiler is 10 years or older it would be strongly advisable to have it replaced.
Tom Noonan in Glynn’s Homevalue Claremorris explains it very well. “You wouldn’t expect a 10 year old car to be as efficient on petrol or diesel as a new car if you didn’t service it regularly. Well the same is true of your oil boiler. Many people only think about their oil boiler when they have no heat.”
Mr Noonan has noticed a huge uptake on the grant scheme since Christmas as the frost cracked a lot of boilers and people used the opportunity to upgrade their heating system to avail of the grant.
