Record funding has been allocated for housing adaptation grants for older people and people with a disability this year, according to local Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Labour Affairs, Dara Calleary.
“€3.72 million has been allocated by the Minister for Housing and Local Services Michael Finneran TD under the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme for Older People and People with a Disability, which is an increase of €944,000 on last year’s allocation for Mayo,” Minister Calleary said. “Eligible works under the scheme include provision of level access showers, the installation of stair lifts, grab rails, and access ramps.”
Fianna Fáil Dep Beverley Flynn also welcomed the news: “These measures can often make the difference in someone remaining in their own homes and at the heart of their communities,” she said. “Maintaining independence is vital for older people and those with disabilities and this funding provides the practical support necessary.”
