Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has been advised by the Fine Gael spokesperson on community, rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, Deputy Michael Ring of the absence of a broadband service in certain areas of Mayo. He raised the matter by way of a Dáil question as to what steps the Minister is taking to provide high-speed broadband services.
“While the provision of broadband services, particularly in urban areas, is a matter for private sector service providers, my overall policy framework is aimed at encouraging wider availability and higher speed services,” Minister Ryan responded.
Deputy Ring stated: “While broadband has improved somewhat in Mayo, there are many areas without broadband. In this day and age it is totally unsatisfactory. For many people working from home, for businesses, etc. Not everybody can live or work close to large urban areas. It is vital that we have a proper broadband service with high speed.”
