Mayo Facebookers are party animals according to a survey commissioned by 3, Ireland’s market leader in mobile broadband. The 3 Mobile Broadband Survey shows that 26 per cent of Mayo natives surveyed say ‘Party Animal’ is the type of Facebooker that best describes them while 25 per cent admitted to being the ‘Bad Speller’. The survey also detailed that Facebook is the most popular social media tool with 76 per cent of those surveyed voting in its favour, with Bebo (40 per cent ) and Twitter (16 per cent ) second and third respectively.

The survey was commissioned to coincide with the announcement that the big broadband switch-on with 3 is currently taking place in Mayo, making it one of the first counties in Ireland to receive much-needed broadband connectivity from 3.
Twenty one per cent of respondents from Mayo say they keep in touch online with up to five famous Facebook friends compared to just 14 per cent of respondents from Tipperary who claim to be online buddies with celebrities and the glitterati. It seems that Mayo natives are popular online, with 48 per cent saying that they have more than 60 online friends compared to just 31 per cent of respondents from County Clare.
A huge 84 per cent of those surveyed in Mayo believe broadband plays an important role in their work or social life.
Mayo people are savvy online shoppers. Sixty per cent say they shop online for convenience and the fact that it is possible to shop on the net 24/7. Sixty six per cent believe that broadband saves them money shopping online as it allows them to get better value for money, while 52 per cent shop online for the special offers available
Online shoppers in Mayo are most likely to buy tickets on the net (75 per cent ). Mayo shoppers’ other favourite online purchases are books, CDs, DVDs or music (74 per cent ), fashion/clothing (63 per cent ), electrical goods (42 per cent ).
Overall a whopping 75 per cent of online surfers in the county use the net for fun and entertainment with just 25 per cent using the internet for work or business.
The top three websites visited by Mayo people are Google, Facebook, and gmail.
