Mayo see off Dublin for second win

Ladies GAA

Mayo 1-12

Dublin 0-12

Mayo picked up their second win of the 2010 national football league on Sunday in Ballyheane with a three point win over Dublin. The win moves Mayo into third place in the league table behind Laois and Galway after three rounds of the league. Cora Staunton was once again the go to player for Mayo and the multiple all star scored 10 of Mayo’s points on the day, nine of them from placed balls. Mayo bagged the only goal of the game in the first half when Staunton hit a shot that came back off the bar into the hands of Ciara Hanahoe who dispatched the rebound to the net from close range. Mayo went in at the break leading by 1-5 to 0-6 in a nip and tuck affair.

Mayo were made to fight hard for the win with both Claire Egan and Fiona McHale spending time in the sin bin during the second half after picking up yellow cards. Yvonne Byrne also pulled off a great double save to keep Mayo in the lead during the closing stages as they looked to move into position to claim a place in the knock out rounds.
