Street fracas outside Castlebar club

A man who jumped out of a car and got involved in an incident outside Mantra nightclub was before Castlebar District Court this week for a public order offence.

Garda Brian McGuire was on New Antrim Street on February 7 2010, when he observed Ronan Cosgrave, Saleen, Ballinrobe Road, Castlebar, in a row with the Welcome Inn bouncers. The defendant, who was intoxicated, was asked to desist. His demeanour was aggressive and he was pushing himself around.

According to his solicitor, Lynda Lenehan, the defendant was spinning around as a passenger in a car and got involved in a incident when he saw it occur outside the club.

The unemployed carpenter, who has no previous convictions, was given the Probation Act by Judge Mary Devins if he contributed €150 to the Mid West Garda Special Needs fund.
