A 27-year-old man who failed to provide a sample after being arrested for drink driving was disqualified for four years at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.
On July 27 2009 at 3.45am, gardaí followed a car driven by David Gill, Tower Hill, Ballyglass, Claremorris, from McCormack Estate in Castlebar. The defendant was signalled to stop but failed to do so and he continued to drive, in a dangerous manner, until he was stopped at Cloonkeen.
At the Garda station, Gill failed to provide a breath sample. He had no insurance for the car which he was driving.
The unemployed engineer was out with friends that night and drove a car belonging to one of his friends.
For failing to provide a sample Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the defendant €500 and disqualified him from driving for four years. For having no insurance the judge convicted and fined him €250 and disqualified him from driving for one year concurrent.
