Drunk Lithuanian man attempted to attack gardaí

A 20-year-old Lithuanian native who attempted to attack gardaí and had to be restrained when arrested, was before Claremorris District Court this week.

Deividas Ivoska, 5 St John’s Villas, Claremorris was before the court relating to two separate incidents, one which took place in July 2009 and the other this month.

On July 1 at 11am Garda Catherine Hoban observed the defendant, who was intoxicated, along with two others in an alleyway adjacent to a bar, where they were interfering with beer kegs. They were asked to move on, which they did. The owner of the bar later called gardaí at 1pm, saying that he observed the defendant interfere with one of the kegs which became contaminated with blood. Ivoska had cut his finger while trying to extract the beer.

On February 3 gardaí were called to St John’s Villas following a report of an aggressive male. Ivoska was intoxicated, was roaring and shouting at a family member and residents and told gardaí to “f**k off”. The defendant then removed his jacket and went to attack gardaí. The defendant was restrained and arrested.

Solicitor Cathy McDarby said that the unemployed Lithuanian man comes from a troubled background and has previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins adjourned the matter to May 18 for a probation report.
