Painter punched man in view of gardaí

An intoxicated man who banged on the windows of a patrol car and was then observed to thump a man was before Claremoris District Court this week for a Section Two assault charge and public order charges.

On Sunday October 4 2009 at 3.30am Garda Donal Kelly was on mobile patrol on Dalton Street, Claremorris when Frank Casey, Claremount, Claremorris, who was intoxicated, approached the garda car and banged on the windows of the car shouting at gardaí in “a jovial way”. The garda car pulled away and when returned Gda Kelly observed the defendant punch a man. The man who was assaulted was asked to make a statement but declined.

Father of two Frank Casey, who is a painter, was convicted and fined €250 by Judge Mary Devins for being threatening and abusive. The change of being intoxicated in a public place was taken into consideration. For the section two assault Judge Devins directed that Casey contribute €500 to St Catherine’s Outreach and, applied the Probation Act.
