Castlebar man told garda what to do with his baton

A Castlebar man who drove off from gardaí and then told a garda that he would stick the Garda baton up the garda’s backside was this week given a suspended sentence at Castlebar District Court.

The case, which was previously heard, outlined how Eamon Maughan, 29 Knockthomas Drive, Castlebar, on April 18 2009 at 10.30pm, tried to drive off from an unmarked Garda car in a car park near the rear of McDonald’s, and when stopped he told the garda that he would “take the baton off him and shove it up his h***”.

Judge Mary Devins adjourned the matter for sentencing to February 17, at which court the unemployed father of five was convicted and fined a total of €600 and was sentenced to three months in jail suspended for 12 months.
