Two men have been arrested and released following the attack of an elderly couple in their home in Achill.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday at 9.30pm and released on Monday night. A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the matter.
The incident took place in the village of Dooagh on Valentine’s night. The couple arrived home after 8.30pm where there were two balaclava-clad men waiting for them in their house. The couple were tied up and the man, believed to be in his sixties, was beaten up. Both victims were traumatised but were not hospitalised for their injuries. The local community is at odds as to why this couple had been targeted. Some believe it may have been a case of mistaken identity.
