Mayo Fianna Fáil senator John Carty has welcomed the confirmation from the Department of Education and Science that Scoil Iosa in Ballyhaunis is to advance in the School Building Programme 2010.
The school is to be authorised by the Department of Education and Science to prepare tender documents for its extension.
Sen Carty has warmly welcomed the news. He has been working with the school’s board of management for some time now to see that it received the priority it deserved in the School Building Programme.
“I am delighted that, following my representations, Scoil Iosa has received priority in the School Building Programme 2010. I brought the Minister for Education and Science Batt O’Keeffe TD to meet a deputation from the school when he visited Mayo last April.”
Sen Carty said it was wonderful news for the school, its students and the greater Ballyhaunis area and illustrates the Government’s commitment to modernising educational facilities.
He also said the programme would act as an economic stimulus with the creation of construction jobs.
